The close relationship between Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti
has not dwindled since sharing the dugout at Real Madrid in 2013, and
the current Bayern Munich coach mentioned how he convinced the Frenchman
to lead Real Madrid Castilla and reject an offer from Bordeaux at the
time.
What Zidane means to Madridista supporters is one thing,
but his presence and commanding figure is felt by all within the
dressing room as well, something Ancelotti believes is crucial to his
overall success.
"The fact that he is coaching Real Madrid is
good for him and good for the club, and I know from when he was my
assistant that he has the charisma and respect of all the players," the
Bayern boss told L'Equipe. "When Rafa Benitez left and Zidane took over,
all the players were at his service."
Bordeaux came calling after
the ex-Juventus player and Ancelotti parted ways, but the Italian was
quite clear in what he thought would be better for Zidane's development
as a budding coach.
"Zidane studied a lot, was brave in accepting
to be my assistant coach and he knows the club well," Ancelotti
insisted. "That has created a really good atmosphere surrounding the
institution."
As to the differences between the two clubs, like
many coaches before him, the Decima winning man emphasised how the club
is managed by former players that know the game well, like honourary
president Franz Beckenbauer and CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
"Beckenbauer was a former player so he understands what is going on much easier [than leadership at Real Madrid].
"In
Madrid, there is a lot of external pressure - TV, radio, newspapers -
which means in Germany there is a different feeling at the club."
