History Folder: Three days after the humiliating
home defeat at the hands of Alaves, Barcelona fans have seen another,
more welcome, side to Neymar in the 7-0 thumping of Celtic in the
Champions League.
If before he was slated for his individualism
and imprecise play, on Tuesday night the Brazilian was applauded for
turning his game around with an historic four assists and a goal from a
free -kick, previously unattained in the European competition.
His
contribution was key to the goalfest that the Catalans enjoyed at the
expense of the Scottish club, who only tested Marc-Andre ter Stegen once
in the entire 90 minutes, albeit from the spot.
The opening game
of the group stages served not only to see the MSN trident back in
action this season but also to witness the 24-year-old at his very best.
Sparkling
and daring, the forward was a real headache for Cristian Gamboa and
Mikael Lustig, the two full-backs whom Brendan Rodgers had charged with
blocking Los Azulgranas' attack.
For the second game running, a
visiting coach planted a five-man defence but, unlike Alaves, this time
it did not prove a problem for the Baugrana.
In fact, it did not
take long for the home side to silence their opponents - as within three
minutes Lionel Messi hammered home the first goal following a superb
ball from Neymar.
The chemistry between the duo proved to be a winning formula
as they combined well for the Argentinian to get his second, soon after
Moussa Dembele missed the chance to equalise from the penalty spot.
After
laying the ghost of their weekend LaLiga game to rest, Barcelona came
out all guns blazing in the second half with a stunning free-kick from
the man from Sao Paulo.
Judging by his shot, it seems his right
ankle is not giving too much trouble, particularly as he went on to set
up two more goals - a left-footed shot to Andres Iniesta who beat Dorus
de Vries with a powerful volley and then another with the right to Luis
Suarez.
